About the Role  

We are seeking a Finance Lead to drive our financial strategy, management, planning, compliance, and operational efficiency at Axum. This role is crucial for ensuring financial sustainability, optimizing resource allocation, and enhancing financial transparency while supporting Axum’s broader mission and impact at the local and global levels.

The ideal candidate is a proactive and analytical finance professional who thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional environment and is passionate about creating asocial impact in Africa and around the globe. The Finance Lead will be an integral part of Axum’s operations team, supporting Consultants and Partners across the organization.

Key Responsibilities  

1.      In-country responsibilities (70%)

·       Perform monthly financial closing processes to ensure timely reporting by established deadlines and prepare monthly financial reports for management discussions

·       Prepare project-specific financial and management reports for clients before review by Partners and submission to clients.

·       Prepare and monitor annual budgets for the entities and client-specific requirements with input from Office Directors and other Partners.

·       Ensure the timely filing of monthly and periodic statutory returns and payments.

·       Oversee cash planning, budgeting, and financial projections.

·       Manage the payroll process for staff in Tanzania.

·       Review and process expense payments for staff and suppliers.

·       Manage and maintain company assets and their register, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

·       Review project closure reports.

·       Liaise with auditors and tax advisors to ensure that financial and statutory audits are completed on time and resolve any queries.

·       Liaise with tax authorities and other government entities regarding audits and inquiries.

·       Manage relationships with banks and negotiate foreign exchange rates as necessary.

2.      Other responsibilities (30%)

·       Support other selected Axum entities/entity with the posting of entries and financial data

·       Prepare budgets for selected Axum entities

·       Prepare management reports for the selected entities

·       Prepare inter-company reconciliations between Axum entities

·       Perform any other duties as might be required by the firm to advance its mission and impact in Tanzania and globally.

What We Are Looking For 

Required Qualifications 

·       Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Accounts or its equivalent

·        ACCA/CPA-T qualification or its equivalent

·       3-5 years of work experience in a similar role

·       Good communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills

·       Good analytical skills and attention to detail

·       Experience in working with people from different cultures and varied geographical locations is desirable

·       Interest in international development
